Introduction

This one-day instructor-led course teaches students the instant messaging functionalities that are available in Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. The course introduces the Office Communications Server 2007 architecture in the Standard and Enterprise Editions, and the considerations involved in implementing them. The course focuses on the instant messaging features and the role of server components in both standard and enterprise instant messaging solutions.

This course is intended for current real-time communications IT Professional and infrastructure specialists that want to learn how to implement Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007.

Prerequisites

Before attending this course, students must have:

• Familiarity with Active Directory knowledge and concepts.
• Familiarity with Exchange Server Messaging knowledge and concepts.
• Familiarity with SharePoint knowledge and concepts.
• Fundamental knowledge of using Microsoft Office 2007 or Microsoft Office 2003.

Module 1: Implementing and Deploying an Instant Messaging Solution by Using Office Communications Server 2007 Standard Edition

Office Communications Server 2007 Standard Edition supports an instant messaging solution that provides the users in your organization with one-to-one instant messaging, group instant messaging, and file transfer. This module describes how to deploy an Instant Messaging solution with Office Communications Server 2007 Standard Edition. The module also introduces the Active Directory design and network requirements, and security requirements that you should consider when planning your deployment. Finally, the module describes how to share Server 2007 Address Book Server, which can be accomplished by using internal sources such as Active Directory distribution lists, or by using external sources such as public instant messaging user accounts.

Module 2: Using Instant Messaging and Presence Information

Office Communications Server 2007 supports three clients: Office Communicator 2007, Microsoft Web Communicator 2007, and Microsoft Mobile Communicator 2007. Office Communications Server 2007 also supports Microsoft Communicator Automation application programming interface (API). These APIs integrate presence and collaboration features in applications and provide enhanced collaboration capabilities to users. This module introduces the client applications and describes how to add new contacts, send instant messages, or find contact information. This module also describes how an Office Communications Server 2007 instant messaging solution enables users to assign presence levels to their contacts, to filter presence information, to find contacts across various application platforms and use this information to communicate and schedule meetings with their contacts.

The Enterprise Edition of Office Communications Server 2007 provides a scalable instant messaging solution for real-time communication among users. By using Office Communications Server 2007 Enterprise Edition users can securely access internal servers by using remote user access, connect to external users in a federated external network, and communicate with their instant messaging contacts by using various public instant messaging services and clients. Day 2 & 3: Implementing and Maintaining Audio/Visual Conferencing and Web Conferencing Using Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007

Introduction

This two-day instructor-led course provides students with the knowledge and skills to plan, deploy, and manage audio/visual and Web conferencing by using Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007.

Audience

This course is intended for IT Professional infrastructure specialists. This includes real-time communications Technology Specialists and Professional real-time communications Engineers. In addition, IT Professionals in any job role that interacts with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007, SharePoint Server, and Exchange Server will benefit from the course.

Course Outline

Module 1: Determining the Implementation Requirements for On-Premise Conferencing

The way people work has changed in the last few decades as technology has enabled greater mobility. While this mobility can offer tremendous benefits to both employees and the organizations for which they work, it does present some challenges. The need to communicate effectively with work colleagues does not diminish with distance. If two or more employees need to meet in order to progress a project, collaborate on documents, or simply share ideas, Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 can enable them to do so by providing support for on-premise conferencing. On-premise conferencing provides a number of benefits over hosted conferencing solutions.

In order to implement Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007, you must make some changes to Active Directory, and deploy additional application servers, such as Internet Information Server, SQL Server 2005, and Exchange Server 2007.

Module 3: Implementing an On-Premise Conferencing Solution by Using Office Communications Server 2007 Enterprise Edition

The Enterprise Edition of Office Communications Server is better suited to larger organizations as it offers support for more users, and flexible server configuration options. For example, you can install all the Office Communications Server services on a single server, or group of servers; alternatively, you can deploy conferencing components to separate server computers in load-balanced pools. Enterprise Edition provides the capability to more easily scale to support more users as your needs change. In addition, because you must install the SQL Server component on a separate physical computer, you can provide resilience at the back-end by clustering this SQL Server.

Microsoft provides three client programs for use with Office Communication Server 2007: Office Communicator 2007, Office Live Meeting 2007, and Office Live Meeting Add-In for Office Outlook 2007.

Module 5: Working with On-Premise Web and Audio/Video Conferencing

Office Communications Server 2007 supports the creation of both scheduled and unscheduled web-conferences by using Microsoft Office Live Meeting Add-In for Office Outlook 2007. Users participating in an on-premise web-conference can collaborate and share their data by using Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. You can use Group Policies to control how users share their data and to specify additional settings for an on-premise conference.

Office Communications Server 2007 also supports audio/video conferencing. Users can create audio/video conferences by using a variety of hardware components, including Microsoft Office Roundtable.

This two-day instructor-led course teaches students how to implement and maintain an Office Communications Server 2007 telephony solution. The course covers the topologies supported by Office Communications Server 2007 for deploying a telephony solution for an organization. Further, the course introduces the various call-flow scenarios in an enterprise and explains the call flow among the various Office Communications Server 2007 components in each scenario.

Module 1: Implementing and Maintaining Telephony by Using Office Communications Server 2007

Office Communications Server 2007 supports both PBX telecommunications and SIP telecommunications. To capitalize on the SIP telecommunications functionalities, enterprises can integrate Office Communications Server 2007 into their telephony solution. This module describes the basic components of an enterprise telephony solution, such as PSTN, PBX,SIP-PSTN gateways, and endpoints, and security considerations for implementing a secure telephony solution. The module describes the Active Directory design considerations and networking considerations for deploying Office Communications Server 2007. The module also identifies the installation considerations for distributing the Office Communicator 2007 client to enterprise users. This module describes the deployment of a telephony solution for an enterprise based on SIP-to-PBX interoperability, SIP-to-IP-PBX interoperability, Office Communications Server 2007 integration with the IP-PSTN gateway, or remote office integration.

This module describes the protocols used, and the call flow between internal telephony users in an Office Communications Server 2007 enterprise telephony solution. In addition this module describes the tools available for monitoring the call flow.
